Seven Things I’m Thankful For This Year

As another Thanksgiving draws to a close, I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on some of the things for which I am thankful this year.

  1. I’m thankful for my sweet, open hearted, perceptive, curious, persistent, energetic son, and that I get to be his mama. Although toddlerhood sometimes tests my patience and zaps my energy, being a parent has allowed me to grow in ways I never imagined.
  2. I’m grateful for those conversations and people that make me feel truly seen and understood. I’m not talking about small talk or companionship, I’m talking about real, deep human connection.
  3. I’m thankful for the therapist I started seeing at the end of last year who has helped me to discover things deep in my unconscious that I may never have seen without her guidance.
  4. I’m grateful for the people who care for my son when I can’t be with him. They give him so much love, and he adores them. They teach him many important life skills and lessons. I don’t feel guilty or apprehensive entrusting my child to them. It is because of them that I can have the fulfilling career, financial security, and well-rounded life that I enjoy.
  5. I’m thankful for the open-minded, welcoming, ever-questioning spiritual community I found earlier this year. Sunday services have become a cherished time in my week when I can reflect on life, refocus on my values, and recharge my soul.
  6. I’m grateful for the time I get to spend with my mom, and the time she gets to spend with my son. Although holidays are still hard without my dad, his absence makes me appreciate her even more.
  7. I’m thankful for some very exciting news I received recently. I can’t tell you what it is just yet, but stay tuned!

What are YOU thankful for this Thanksgiving?
