I Did It!

I launched my law firm last week! Getting my business off the ground is taking all of my energy lately, so I haven’t written here in a while, but I wanted to give a quick update.

Business started coming in on day one, which was much quicker than I expected. My fellow attorneys have been so generous, sending me referrals and answering my questions. I’ve been blown away by all the support I’ve received, and truly grateful for it.

I’m learning as I go, but I really love meeting with people and advising them about their legal issues. Sometimes I can’t do much for them, but I think they still appreciate being heard and getting some clarity about their situation. I feel like I can genuinely help people, like I have real value to offer, and it is rewarding.

It seems as if there are a million and one things to do in order to get my business to where I want it to be. I love it, though. I’m so energized and engaged right now. I work with intense focus all day and then work more after my kids go to bed.

As excited as I am at this moment, I recognize the potential for burnout. I’m being careful about making time for self-care. I’m probably not getting as much sleep as I should, but I’ve gone to a few yoga classes and I’m eating well. I even celebrated the opening of my business with a trip to the spa — a reward for all of my hard work and some much-needed relaxation.

I’m gradually settling into this new life and appreciating the incredible freedom I have. Right now, my days are fully self-directed. I have a newfound sense of agency over my own life. I get to decide what I want my law firm and lifestyle to look like, and then I get to design them. When I pause to think about that, I’m struck by what an amazing opportunity this is. Here’s to creating a career and life I love!
